Be Mine - Ezekiel 16

When you were born, you were all alone
Nobody washed you or carried you home
Nobody wrapped you in swaddling cloths
To the beasts of the field you were thrown
I saw you as I was passing by
Tiny and helpless, and ready to die
I saw you struggling in your own blood
And I couldn't just turn away

So I stopped there
And I called you
And walked to your side
And I took you
And I fed you
That you might not die
And I kept you
And I cared for you
That someday you might
Be mine, Be mine

I made you thrive like a plant in the field
The wounds of your birth were finally healed
I watched you bloom into maturity
You looked like a beautiful queen
You grew very beautiful under My care
But still I could see you were naked and bare
Again I passed by you, and then it was clear
That your time was the time of love

So I stopped there
And I called you
And walked to your side
And I spread My Wing around you
My beautiful bride
And I made with You a covenant
And from that day you were Mine
You were mine

I washed you with water, I clothed you with silk
"I fed you with food rare and fine"
You succeeded to royalty And your beauty was such
That all nations could see you were Mine

Your heart was exalted and lifted on high
You trusted your beauty, forgot you were Mine
You defiled yourself with whomever you chose
Your covenant with Me you broke
Forgetting the blood and the pain of your birth
Forgetting the One who gave you your worth
You turned to your idols of silver and gold
I watched you turn away

And I'm standing
And I'm weeping with heartbroken cries
And I'm calling
And I'm pleading
Oh, why would you die?
And I'm knocking
And I'm still hoping that someday you might be mine

I will save you
I will heal you and walk by your side
I will clothe you in a garment of brilliant white
I will come and take you home with me finally,
When you were mine
Be mine
